The issue is when you will play sifarishis and give them place then your XI, the whole balance goes out the window. Start with Farhat at the top, there goes the all important solid foundation you require in this form of the game. Then captain sahib and seniors (Younus, Malik inclusive) won't come out of their shells and won't bat up the order. No one wants to take that all important one down spot and you stick youngsters there, Asad or Azhar. Then we lack all rounders, Razzaq wasn't fit enough for us but contonies to play in Bangladesh Premier League? Shoaib Malik (another sifarishi) added for his all-round capabilities but didn't ball at all? And to accommodate these sifarishis, we omit a wicket-keeper altogether and play with a make-shift one ... We have got to stop lying to ourselves! And I agree, if there is some smoke, there has to be some fire somewhere. I am also hearing a lot in comments etc on other blogs and forums too about these stories re: senior members in the team supporting Mohsin Khan over full time coaching issue. As for T20s, that is played by us as a pure hit and miss game. In the early days of T20, we have been very successful in this format. While other teams have learnt and adapted, we continue to play it the street-way. Result is that England are now world champions and we are languishing somewhere down the bottom of rankings. Still, given we have 10 batsmen who only have 20 overs to survive, we might get lucky in one (or hopefully two) of those games. Good analysis Amer, as always.
